Workstation & Laptop Security Testing
Many organisations provide their employees with a standard build for their laptops and
workstations. In most instances, users will have restricted access to what they can do
on these machines. They probably won’t have local administrator rights on the machine
and they probably won’t have the ability to add or remove programs or device drivers.

By limiting access to what a user can do, organisations can reduce their threat of
exposure and compromise. Nettitude carries out Internal Workstation and Laptop security
assessments to help organisations understand the security risks posed by these devices.
Nettitude can identify security exposures within the Operating System, its
configuration, and its patching posture. Nettitude can assess the local and
network file permissions associated with the user. Nettitude can also assess the
applications and the network connectivity granted to users, and identify whether a
malicious employee could gain access to resources that should otherwise be
restricted.
Nettitude can identify whether it is possible for a user to escalate their privileges
and gain access to local Administrator or Domain Administrator type functions. Nettitude can
identify whether the same user could gain access to restricted Internet resources and bypass
content checking or data loss prevention type solutions.
Nettitude can identify whether laptop user’s machines could be used to gain access
to corporate resources when the user is away from the office. This includes
assessing cached profiles, passwords and resources that could be used to launch a
VPN or Remote Access connection in to the corporate network.
