The PCI Data Security Standard is a global standard that is relevant all merchants that process, transmit or store card data. In addition, card acquirers, issuers and service providers also have a responsibility to adhere to the standard. The standard was originally formed by Visa, Mastercard, American Express, JCB and Discovery. It has since become the defacto security standard for any type of organization that processes card data.
