Remote Access Solution 

The Problem: The existing remote access solution was problematic and complicated for the users, placing an unnecessary workload on the IT Support team. In addition, there were Business Continuity considerations regarding staff access to company resources if outside their normal place of work

The Requirement:

Numerous remote users requiring simple, secure access to core business tools such as Microsoft Office

Key Director level remote users requiring secure access from potential kiosk sites (airport lounges, internet cafes etc) where local device integrity cannot be trusted

Key user group requiring privileged access to financial systems/data from remote Locations

The Solution: SSL Based VPN using Checkpoint Connectra Checkpoint to use Network Extender Plugin to integrate with Checkpoint Integrity The Case Primary Group had previously been using a VPN solution that required their remote users to install a software element on their laptops and PDA’s. This proved to be cumbersome and constantly generated support issues for Primary Groups IT department. In addition to this, the solution prevented Primary Group’s Executives from accessing internal resources from Internet Café’s or Airport Web Kiosks.

Nettitude was tasked with deploying a solution that provided remote access over the Internet, without the need for installing proprietary software on the users machine. The solution needed to be highly available, easy to use, and inherently secure. In addition, Primary Group wanted to have the ability to perform posture checks on their Clients, to check what level of patching, antivirus etc was prevalent on the users machine. Primary group have deployed Checkpoint Connectra to provide this remote access VPN solution. Checkpoint Connectra provides SSL VPN connectivity from any internet connected host to a Connectra Web portal. On successful authentication, users are able to access e-mail, file shares and corporate applications all through an Internet Explorer browser.

Security is optimised through using strong encryption and authentication controls, similar to those using in Internet banking solutions. As a consequence, Primary Group’s remote users are able to access corporate resources in a timely and efficient manner, safe in the knowledge that their sessions are protected by one of the strongest security appliances in the market today.
